Over the past four years, we have worked closely with professional Dutch cymbidium growers to develop an effective, pesticide-free method of controlling the Ambigolimax valentianus slug, a greenhouse pest. The result of this collaboration is Backie: a sustainable, proven slug trap that is highly effective without the use of pesticides. Extensive research and testing have demonstrated that Backie reliably catches slugs, providing growers with an eco-friendly, dependable alternative to traditional control methods.
What is Backie?
Backie is a pesticide-free, reusable slug trap designed for effective, large-scale control in greenhouse horticulture. Developed in close collaboration with growers and Studio Catch HS, it is simple yet efficient. The trap uses wheat bran as a natural attractant to ensure long-lasting effectiveness. When slug pressure is low, Backie can remain in place with minimal maintenance, making it practical and cost-effective for growers.
Backie is equally suitable for outdoor use beyond greenhouses. From large-scale agricultural fields to small private gardens, it reliably protects crops and ornamental plants against slug damage. By primarily targeting younger, smaller slugs, Backie interrupts the reproductive cycle and helps to curb population growth.
